The Catís Meow Among Restaurants

By Lauren Merryfield

My husband and I were on our way to West Seattle to attend a friendís wedding. Since Jim hadnít "Yahooed" the directions to the wedding location, he was unusually aware of the names of the businesses near the wedding hall.

...And there it was, a large replica of a "Kit Kat Clock," above the door to where we would surely have our supper after the wedding-the "Catís Eye Cafe!"

Like felines drawn to tuna, we promptly returned to this cafe after the wonderful wedding ceremonies and chit-chat with friends.

"Are there cat things in there?" I asked as we entered the cafe. Jim showed me a wonderful collection of china cats, furry stuffed cats, pictures of cats, placed attractively on counters and walls. But it didnít end there. They sold "Kit Kat" clocks, t-shirts and mugs, and-oh, how cute!-the menu! People food was given cat-related names: Catalina, Cat O'Nine Tails, Catamaran, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Catmandu, Catatonic, etc. Jim ordered vegetarian chili and I-I couldnít help it-I ordered "Cat in Heat," a tuna-melt.

Not only was the food delicious, the staff friendly, but it was okay to meow in this restaurant-cat people would understand!

One missing item was a resident cat. Upon inquiring about this, the young man at the counter related that theyíd had several strays but they never stuck around for long. Perhaps felines were aware that this was more of a humanís delight, but might understand that to cat people, this was the Catís Meow of restaurants!

One could wonder how we missed finding the Catís Eye Cafe after living in this area for two-and-a-half years. Weíre purrfectly satisfied to have found it when we did, on a special friendís wedding day.
